If you are using an irrigation system, it is important that you are using it correctly. Too often, irrigation systems are not set up properly or are not maintained and are misused. Not only can your irrigation system waste money, it is not healthy for your lawn to give it a consistent overdose of water through an irrigation system. It may look green, but over watering can lead to unhealthy plants that are susceptible to disease.
On average, your lawn likes around 1 inch of water per week. Normally, regular rainfall is enough for a healthy lawn, but sometimes it needs help. If your lawn is drying out, it can be beneficial to water your lawn prior to receiving rain. By doing so, you will soften the soil, allowing your soil to soak in more rather than run-off. Also, if we get ½ inch rain and you watered before, you have achieved a 1 inch soaking.
Peters Lawn Service provides seasonal contracts for irrigation service. Spring startup includes turning on your water, starting your irrigation system, checking all zones, adjusting heads, making repairs, and setting a program to run efficiently. System checks can also be performed during the season to ensure your system is running efficiently and effectively or to make repairs. Fall Shutdown of your irrigation system includes turning your water off and blowing out your irrigation lines to prevent damage from the winter freeze.
It is normal for the cool season grasses in our local lawns to go dormant during an excessively hot, dry period during the summer. When rainfall returns, these dormant lawns will green back up and return to their previous growth pattern. Only in an excessive, epic drought will you run the risk of losing your lawn.
